Year 10 Keira High School student Lachlan Booth has been awarded $1000 and also won $1000 for his school library on Thursday 14 September after taking out the Youth Local History Competition.

The Friends of Wollongong City Library sponsored the Youth Local History Competition, calling for original research into the history of the City of Wollongong. It is the first time the Competition has been held.

Wollongong City Council’s Manager Library and Community Services, Jenny Thompson, said: “The judges were impressed by the high standard of entries we received, however Lachlan’s stood out in particular because it was an engaging history of the Reid family, whose name is behind the suburb Reidtown.
